Windows in Edinburgh advocating different positions for the Scottish independence referendum in 2014.

With the recent Brexit vote still ringing in changes and heralding uncertainty, we chose this picture from 2014 when the Scots voted on their own independence from the United Kingdom. They voted to remain in the hotly contested referendum.

Two years later and Scotland (and Northern Ireland) voted overwhelming to remain in the European Union, but unfortunately were outvoted in England and Wales by a slim margin.

Scotland may have a chance to vote again on whether they want to remain in an less-than-United Kingdom.
